Long-standing Sydney laneway bar, the former Since I Left You, has reinvented itself as SILY, encapsulating the very best of the city’s small bar scene by serving cocktails and creative culinary delights against the stunning backdrop of Kent street’s heritage sandstone architecture.
SILY’s courtyard is hidden down a cobbled stone pathway, offering a cosy feel, yet spacious enough that guests won’t find themselves backing into nearby tables. While it retains a unique 1920’s industrial vibe, the space breathes a hint of freshness with plants hanging on the walls, and the draping fairy lights coupled with the impressive mural by Sydney artist, Scotty Marsh, instills some urban modernity. In the evenings, the courtyard comes alive, with the venue hosting a range of live music acts.
Inside the bar it is a little more intimate, with bar tables lining parallel to a long leather lounge and stools that runs down the side of the narrow room. Candles are dotted along the tables, illuminating the space, while another vibrant Scottie Marsh artwork adds a splash of colour to the back wall.
The cocktail menu offers delicious options like the ‘Citrus Self Down’, concocting a mix of Vodka O, Aperol, Elderflower Liqueur and Lemon, and the Nuthin’ But A Gin Thang with Aviation Gin, Maraschino and Cranberry. The Pisco Fever grooves with Pisco Mistral, apricot, agave, lemon and bitters, while the exotic Single Plum, Floating in Perfume, Served in a Man’s Hat fuses together Glenmorangie Original, Ume, Ginger and Peychaud’s.
To complement the drinks, SILY are dishing up tasty snacks and meals like “Nick’s Famous” Guacamole with Corn Chips, Waffles, Mac ‘n Cheese cooked in a waffle iron and Cheeseburger Toasties. Something to try is their unique creation, the Waffalafels – falafels cooked like a waffle served with zingy lemon tahini Sauce.
SILY are also serving lunch on weekdays from 11:30 till 2pm, with options like build-your-own Poke Bowls, smoked Ruebens with wagyu, sauerkraut and Le Superbe Swiss Gruyere, as well as their classic Waffalafels, Mac ‘n Cheese and Hash Browns.
