Queen Victoria Building plan gourmet food market with Pepe Saya, Doughnut Time, and more (Sydney)

A list of food pop-ups from some of Sydney’s finest establishments are about to help Sydney’s iconic Queen Victoria Building turn into a temporary gourmet food marketplace as a celebration of and refelection on the building’s founding years. From Wednesday 3rd August to Sunday 7th August, QVB’s southern precinct will become a showcase of guest providores and some of the property’s finest, all of which will be offering exclusive treats for five delicious days.

QVB began as a hub for fresh farm produce, drapery, and groceries for Sydney’s early settlers, and the 2016 recreation will be paying a heady nod to those days by fitting the likes of Salt Meats Cheese, Pepe Saya, and Doughnut Time in between those historic walls, designing a winter gourmet hub that will be full of everything from burgers* and bone broth soups to freshly baked artisan breads with cultured butters, wood-fired pizzas, and popcorn.

High-end flourist Mr Cook has come on board to design the look and atmosphere of the marketplace, planning colourful displays of flowers and greenery, illustrating a collection of stalls from, as mentioned above, Salt Meats Cheese, Pepe Saya, and Doughnut Time, plus nutrition-focused Love Bones & Broth, bakery Spoon & Fork, resident nut expert Nutorious, QVB’s Italian street food vendor Vanto, coffee purveyors Kikko Café, and one of QVB’s most popular, The Tea Room. There’ll even be a Mulled Wine Bar on hand, because Winter ain’t going nowhere.

Plenty of exclusives are planned for the five days. For instant, Salt Meats Cheese will take this opportunity to debut their Cheese Bread Milk Bun Burger*, which is made with three melted cheeses and truffled mushroom. offered up along with their range of truffle cheeses and antipasto plates. Love Bones & Broth will be spooning out delicious Bone Broth Soups; Pepe Saya are bringing their award-winning cultured butter with artisan breads; and Vanto have your Naples style wood-fired pizzas sorted. *UPDATE: Salt Meats Cheese will no longer be bringing the listed burger along to the Gourmet Food Marketplace, instead they’ll be serving up a Three Cheese + Truffle Mushroom Toastie (provolone, cheddar, mozzarella, truffled mushrooms) and Three Cheese + Ham Toastie (provolve, cheddar, mozzarella, double smoked ham) as well as selling produce like truffle pasta, oil, truffle pecorino, and brie.
