OZO: Phuket’s newest hotel opens with rooms starting from AU$90

Frequented by Australian travellers at all times of the year, the Thai island of Phuket remains one of the most accessible and affordable holidays for those down under. Though a truly luxe stay can still be quite costly on the island, which leaves a sweet spot for new mid-range hotels like OZO Phuket.

The brand new property, which occupies an enviable spot in the relaxed and family-friendly heart of Kata town, is the latest from ONYX Hospitality Group. It’s located almost right next to the famous Club Med, which due to its size and reputation has historically kept lodging competition quite low. That has meant less noisy tourists, which has shaped a much quieter, more relaxed culture in Kata town – a part of Phuket best recognised as having the island’s best surfing beach.

OZO Phuket has added 225 guest rooms and suites to the area, spread across five different buildings with a supremely comfortable and stylish approach to hospitality. It’s a comfortable base from which to explore Kata and its traditional night markets (which are right across the road), mix of local and western dining options, and easy access to stunning vantage points.

The contemporary guest rooms are each given character with smart, functional locally made furniture and a generous amount of space. Room categories range from the entry level “Sleep” rooms at 25 square meters, and identical “Dream” rooms which come with balconies, to 10 large OZO Suites. Some even feature their own front garden looking out over a large green space with ample seating, two pools (one of which has slides and other equipment to entertain kids), a pool bar, and the entrance to a breezy on-site restaurant simply dubbed EAT.

Amenities include an air-conditioned relaxation room with a pool table and workstations, a well-equipped fitness centre with treadmills looking out to the garden, and the aforementioned EAT which serves a la carte all-day dining with a mix of Thai, Asian and international options ranging from Pad Thai to pizza, and beautiful fruit smoothies.

Worth your attention not just for its functional design, brilliant location, and the fact that it’s only a minute walk from the beach, OZO Phuket have also struck a nice balance with their price point.

To celebrate its official opening, the hotel is currently offering a special introductory rate starting at $AU90 per room per night (on a room only basis). That’s around a 25% saving from the usual rate, valid for bookings made by 31st August 2019 for a stay period up until 31st October 2019. So if you’re heading to Phuket or plan to anytime soon, you’d be wise to jump on this one as soon as possible.
