Unpacking the newest gameplay features in NBA 2K27

NBA 2K27 is right around the corner, and we’re getting plenty of inside looks at some fresh gameplay features from this year’s iteration.

From general gameplay enhancements to a new city and MyCAREER updates, there’s plenty to look forward to when the game launches on the 4th of September, 2026.

Gameplay

This year, players will mainly benefit from the updates to layups and dribbling, with expanded animations and customisation options, adding another layer of accuracy, authenticity, and expression. This is also thanks to 7,000 new animations this year alone.

Defensively, we’ll even be getting new shot-blocking and collision systems, leading to a more tenacious and physical brand of defensive gameplay.

MyTEAM, Player XP and an Expanded Exchange

The Expanded Exchange will now accept any Player Card in a collection, giving players the ability to experiment with and ultimately maximise every card in their lineup.

A new Player XP system will also give every new Player Card new ways and abilities to help level up and unlock rewards across the MyTEAM mode.

Finally, MyTEAM will benefit from rotating multiplayer modes, a unified Auction House, new Player Card Parallels, and expanded Breakout progression, all while giving players new ways to build, play, and upgrade their dream NBA & WNBA lineup.

MyNBA

The biggest addition to MyNBA in NBA 2K27 will be the 100-Year Legacy Mode, an all-new RPG-focused single-player mode that lets users run the front office and dominate on the court as the same locked player, across a franchise window expanded to a whopping 100 years.

A Whole New City

For the first time, the City will be co-ed, meaning both male and female MyPLAYERs can interact and compete together.

The all-new Crew HQ also gives squads a dedicated home base for practice, ranked competition, private games, Crew progression and seasonal tournaments.

MyCAREER – Fire & Concrete

Titled Fire & Concrete, this new MyCAREER mode will add a new story that spans 11 chapters and even features rapper Vince Staples.

MyCAREER Eras will also expand to five eras, from the Bird and Magic Era of the 80s to the Steph era of the 2010s.

Finally, for the first time, players can invite a friend to play co-op directly in their MyCAREER via Running Mate Trace Miller.

MyPLAYER, The W and MyWNBA

MyPLAYER will feature fresh Builder updates, including a New Builder Path and Strategic Badge Tokens & Synergy Boosts.

The MyWNBA and The W modes will include dedicated single-player experiences, a Build-as-You-Go progression model, an updated Game Attribute System, all-new Team Badges and Teammate Badges and tools to run a WNBA franchise.

Finally, new Team Badges and Teammate Badges boost on-court chemistry, providing two distinct upgrade paths as players progress.

NBA 2K HQ App

From the 21st of August, players will be able to build and edit MyPLAYERs on the go through the NBA 2K HQ companion app, then upload their builds directly to their home console setup and share with friends via QR code.

The app will also keep players connected around the clock through real-time messaging and full Crew management, while enabling them to track leaderboards and claim mobile-exclusive daily rewards to maximise earnings.
