Woollahra’s Italian gem I Maccheroni announces rare wine dinners for July

You may not be able to jet off the Italy anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean your taste buds can’t soak up the splendour of a region as pristine and diverse as Piemonte. This bountiful northern Italian seat of typically rare and celebrates wines will be the subject of a special one-off wine dinner at Sydney’s I Maccheroni, one of Woollahra’s finest Italian restaurants which has recently reopened due to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Due to the rarity of this opportunity, the restaurant has extended this wine-focused degustation to five nights only (with 2 already sold out), stretching across mid and late July with a showcase of 10 of the rarest Barolo and Barbaresco wines leading importer and distributor Enoteca could get their hands on.

It’s not often you’ll find such a sharp focus on Barolo and Barbaresco wines in Sydney, but alas this is ambitious degustation from I Maccheroni will pay homage to the famously rich and full-bodied wines with a specially designed menu tracking everything from veal tongue terrine and rabbit grandade to agnolotti del plin and brasato al barolo (which is beef braised in red wine).

“If you love wine and you love food, this really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said owner and head chef Marcello Farioli, who will be hosting alongside the team at Enoteca as they guide guests through each wine served. “We have some of the best wines in the world that will be paired with some of my favourite Italian dishes. It really doesn’t get much better than this. With Covid-19 restrictions easing, we thought it was the perfect time to do something special for our customers.”

The Barolo & Barbaresco Wine Dinners are available on Thursday 16th, 23rd and 30th July, as well as 6th and 13th August, with only 10 places available per night. The cost is $350 per person, which includes a 10 course degustation and matching Barolo and Barbaresco wines.
