Recipe: Desert Rose Cocktail from InterContinental Dubai Marina

During these unprecedented times, when staying at home is of the utmost importance, us here at The AU Review are going to be doing everything we can to help readers live their best lives, indoors.

As with many other media companies who typically focus on getting folks out and about, we’re shifting to adapt to the necessary lock-downs taking place all over the world. One way we’ll be doing so is simply by sharing our favourite recipes.

Over the next few weeks (or months, who knows) we’ll be publishing the cocktail and food recipes that we find most exciting, so that when you aren’t ordering in to support your favourite venues, you’ll know enough to quickly throw together some top-class concoctions.

Desert Rose Cocktail

Intimate drinking hole Ginter at InterContinental Dubai Marina are known for driving their cocktails with distinct and unexpected Middle Eastern twists. Here, we’ve sourced their coveted recipe for one of their most popular concoctions, that being the Desert Rose cocktail starring the contrasting flavours of orange citrus and naturally sweet Medjool dates. It’s kept simple to let the flavours shine through, which you can taste at home when you perfect this simple recipe.

  • 5 Medjool dates, pitted
  • Brown sugar to taste
  • Dashes of bitters
  • 50ml Maker’s Mark

  1. Combine dates, sugar, water and orange peel in a pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Remove the heat and discard peel.
  3. Blend until smooth and strain into a glass jar, refrigerate until chilled.
  4. Add crushed ice, date syrup and bourbon into a chilled couple.
  5. Garnish with orange citrus and serve immediately.
