Etihad Airways creates industry-first ‘Wellness Ambassador’ role

With the world’s major airlines set on resuming services in response to loosening border restrictions, Etihad Airways has announced a special ‘Etihad Wellness’ program to further their commitment to health and wellbeing throughout the passenger journey. This includes new roles created within the airline, fit into a programme of specially trained Wellness Ambassadors.

Expanding on their already comprehensive health and hygiene routine, Etihad hopes its new industry-first Wellness Ambassadors will help make the journey a bit more seamless so guests can fly with greater peace of mind.

This includes providing essential travel health information, complemented by Etihad Wellness’ online guide highlighting the highest standards of cleanliness, health and hygiene being employed by the airline at every stage of the journey. This includes culinary hygiene at the airline’s catering facilities* and food testing laboratory, aircraft cabin deep-cleaning, check-in, health screening, boarding, inflight experience and product, crew interaction, arrival, and ground transportation.

Anyone needing more specific and personalised information can contact a Wellness Ambassador 24/7 on e-mail at [email protected]. This inbox will be serviced by a multi-lingual team, who will also be handling a web-chat option should people want more real-time help. All Wellness Ambassadors will undergo special training at the airline’s training facilities in Abu Dhabi, and online.

“Providing for our guests, and their wellbeing, is one of Etihad’s core values, and we have a responsibility to protect them, to keep them fully informed, and to provide even greater levels of genuine warmth and personal care,” said Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Aviation Group. “We must guarantee they can travel assured in the knowledge that we have every aspect of their journey with us covered, while still providing a top-quality travel experience. The Wellness Ambassadors will play an important role in delivering this.”

For now, Wellness Ambassadors’ physical presence will be limited to Abu Dhabi International Airport, where they will be present from check-in right through to boarding so that guests can fly with confidence. Once travel restrictions to and from the UAE are lifted, and the airline resumes its expansive network of international flights, the Wellness Ambassadors will also be present on-board and complement the roles performed by other Cabin Crew.
