Cake Wines plan community feasts in gardens and markets around Sydney

From now until mid-December, popular wine champs Cake Wines will be staging a series of weekend lunches and dinners in local community gardens and farmers markets with the help of some of Sydney’s best chefs, including Mike McEnearney (of Kitchen by Mike fame) and Richie Dolan (of Chiswick). With such talent on board, the Cakes Wines Community Feast series is set as a necessary food and wine experience to ’round out a strong year for Cake Wines.

Starting out around Sydney this year, with plans to tour the country in 2016, the Community Feast is a plan of five events that call upon some of the most anticipated culinary talent this city has to offer; in addition to the above, Gregory Llewellyn (of Hatsyard), Jordan Muhamad (of Thievery), and Bobby Fry (of Redfern Continental) will each lend their skills to one event, creating bespoke menus along with Sarah Burvill, Cake Wine’s Head Winemaker, to deliver some great food and wine pairings.

Each event will take place in a different location, with a portion of wine sales going back to the community spaces. With these locations being gardens and markets, produce will be sourced from each planned location to truly bring the venue into the menu. Dishes will be matched to Cake Wines’ 2014 and 2015 vintage releases.

The first Community Feast was held this past weekend in Glebe’s St Helen’s Community Garden with Richie Dolen and Garden Manager Jock Keane. Capacity was capped at 120 guests over two sittings, something which will be kept consistent in each subsequent Community Feast, with the remaining locations including 107 Projects Rooftop Garden, Redfern’s Charlie’s Garden, and the Farmer’s Market at Carriageworks.

“For our feast, food will be sourced from producers in the market on the spur of the moment, which makes things exciting for me and the guests. The food will evolve throughout the day into the final menu; it’s cooking by the seat of your pants and letting nature tell you what’s good, rather than the other way around,” explains Mike McEnearney, who will be handling the feasts on Saturday 5th December at Carriageworks..

Dates and details for each event are included below. Tickets to the Cakes Wines Community Feast events are $120 each, which includes food, Cake Wines, and a James Squire matched option. You can grab tickets from www.cakewines.com/communityfeast. Each date will include two sittings – one at 12:30pm and one at 4:30pm. $10 from the sale of cases of wine on the day will be donated to that event’s garden of market location.
