Best hostels in the world named at the 17th annual HOSCAR awards

Dubbed the “HOSCARS”, HostelWorld’s annual crowd-voted round-up of the world’s best hotels has been released. Once again, it’s a deep-drive into hostels around the world that are a cut above the average, named across various categories which give budget-conscious travellers greater insight into the quality and reliability of properties.

The awards are based on more than 1 million customer reviews submitted throughout 2019, spread across 250 categories. This includes hostels based on size, hostels ideal for solo female and male travellers, and best hotels by country.

The top three hostels in Australia, for example, have been named as Wake Up Bondi Beach in Sydney (coming in first place), followed by Brisbane’s Breeze Lodge, and Melbourne’s Flinders Backpackers. Wake Up! Sydney Central was also named in the top 5 of Best Extra-Large properties in the world.
