Australian dessert king Andy Bowdy is opening a cafe in Enmore (Sydney)

After leaving Hartsyard and starting his own online cake shop, Andy Bowdy has emerged as one of the foremost dessert kings in Australia, constantly pumping out high quality cakes and pastries to meet a feverish demand which has remained high since the solo business kicked off over a year ago. Now Andy is ready to take the next step, bringing an actual physical store to Sydney’s Enmore to focus all that sweet magic in one spot.

As reported by Good Food, the yet-to-be-named store will open in November at 178 Enmore Road, the former Ballers Polpetteria right next to Enmore Theatre. The store won’t just be about pastries, but there are sure going to be a lot of tantalising creations coming through, including a small variety of regularly rotating pastries which will likely include a return to the famous pies Bowdy once championed at Hartsyard, which in the past have included unique fillings like spiced pumpkin custard, pork fat caramel, Jack Daniels, and orange jelly with an almond and pecan crust). Soft serve should feature along with Bowdy’s take on Australian bakery classics likes tarts and vanilla slices.

Savoury dishes will also feature, with Andy telling Good Food that he tentatively plans to introduce American deli-style sandwiches like an Italian take on a classic fish sandwich or bagels with cream cheese and smoked fish, spun into an American-style, all-day brunch menu that will also feature Bloody Marys and mimosas since the venue will have a liquor license.

Spiked classic thickshakes also seem to be on Andy’s mind as he makes concrete plans for the cafe, which should form closer to the date. Those who want to stay up to date with the development are probably best off keeping a close eye on the chef’s mega popular Instagram and Facebook.
