Technology Review: Olixar Qi-Tone Alarm Clock Bluetooth Qi Charging Speaker

As technological change continues to increase at an exponential rate, more and more gadgets are crossing paths with smart phone technology, with convenient wireless charging now a primary consideration. In the past, such gadgets have focused on functionality and really sacrificed aesthetic, but now that the technology has become more focused, there are gadgets out there able to balance primary purpose with the a consumer’s desire for a product that actually looks good and would fit in numerous room design schemes. Enter the Olixar Qi-Tone Alarm Clock, a worthwhile option when thinking about wireless charging devices that also serve other purposes.

Qi wireless charging is now the standard in pretty much every modern mobile handset, except for the Apple iPhone; so if you lean towards Apple you aren’t going to even want to look twice at this device. Though, if you have something like a Galaxy on hand, this device is the perfect platform for the power and convenience that Qi wireless charging brings.

This beautiful, slick wooden block has an attractive LED display to function as any old design-driven alarm clock, but the real power is in the wireless charging option. There’s not much included here in terms of cables; a power cable and an audio cable is all that’s included, bringing your standard plug-and-play process to help you amplify the music on your smart phone. The dual speakers are fairly powerful with a clean, crispy sound that works best with music that has a silky top end like jazz and soul. All the controls are located on the back, but if you’re using you’re phone there won’t be much need for those, although the touch sensitive controls on the top of the panel (Bluetooth on/off, snooze, volume) are much easier to use then unlocking your phone over and over again.

The wooden finish is quite striking, with a natural colour that fits well in pretty much any design scheme. The impressive display on the front of the device is a large, block-y clock and thermostat, just bright enough to see clearly without being annoying glaring. There’s also a built-in microphone for clear, hands-free teleconferencing.

The Bluetooth connectivity is seamless and quick, but the simple process of placing your phone on top and watching it quickly charge is the real winning feature here.

Though you can still get a lot of use out of this without a Qi-enabled device, there are much better plain wireless speakers out there for a lower price point. What really makes this one worth it is the wireless charging and the look of the device, so as long as you can take advantage of that seamless Qi tech then the Olixar is very much a necessity.
