Australian alternative pop/rock outfit Winters End makes a powerful return with “Deadtree,” a deeply affecting new single written in honour of the band’s late member – and frontwoman Marissa (Riss)’s brother – Christopher.
After stepping way from music in 2020 following his sudden passing – where Riss admits that she went from “Writing songs daily to writing one song in the past four years.” – the song, written for Chris, aims to raise awareness about sibling loss, sadly a grief that is often overlooked due to the overwhelmingly tragic grief experienced by parents. Re-emerging with a renewed sense of purpose, Winters End transforms grief and memory into an intimate and emotionally charged piece of work.
Produced by long-time collaborator Lachlan Mitchell (The Whitlams, The Vines), “Deadtree” fuses Winters End signature cinematic intensity with striking vulnerability, marking a bold evolution in both sound and storytelling.
Winters End first gained widespread attention with their award-winning single “Mayfair”, which earned major rotation on more than 35 US college radio stations and carried the band to international stages, including Los Angeles, Toronto, and SXSW 2019. With “Deadtree”, Riss continues the creative journey she began with Christopher – honouring their bond while carving out a new chapter of her own artistic identity.
The Deadtree Single Tour kicks off on January 17th, 2026, bringing Winters End’s emotional, atmospheric live show back to audiences across the country.
