Violent Soho announced their return to music this week, with a tour to commemorate 10 years of their hit album WACO. The announcement comes weeks after members James Tidswell and Luke Boerdam reunited to join Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus for a cover of “Dammit” on his An Evening Of Storytelling tour in Sydney. After the song, Hoppus joked that the band were getting back together, before doubling down and saying, “I wasn’t joking by the way, they really are getting back together.” And while the band denied it, it looks like Hoppus really wan’t joking, after all.
Hanging up their instruments in in 2022, the band took to socials to announce their indefinite hiatus, saying, “…we’ve decided it’s time to take a break and lay low for a bit. This isn’t the end of the band, but we are looking forward to giving ourselves some space, focusing on our families, and giving back to the community which fostered and carried us.”
This was one of the biggest losses in the Australian rock scene, especially since WACO was such an acclaimed record- debuting at #1 on the ARIA charts and Best Rock Album and Best Rock Group at the 2016 ARIA awards.
Though not explicitly an anniversary tour, fans were waiting with bated breath to see if the band would acknowledge a decade of WACO, but a tour seemed extremely unlikely. While this is by no means a permanent comeback, we’ll take what we can get (and cross our fingers and toes).
This September, the tour will kick off in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre, before travelling to Melbourne’s Forum and wrapping up at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 24 at 10am local time, you can grab tickets HERE.
