Track of the Week: Maple Mall “Coastin'” (2021)

Maple Mall

Indie rock continues to be in fine form in Australia, with another band throwing their hats into the ring. Maple Mall are a four piece from the Illawarra region of New South Wales, who have just released their sophomore single “Coastin’”.

It’s very much early days for the lads from Illawarra – they only played their first shows back in November – but their two singles to date, “Jun’s So Fast” and “Coastin’”, should really set them up nicely. “Coastin’” in particular really showcases the surf rock element of the band’s sound. Right from those opening notes, it really delivers those chilled out sun kissed summer vibes.

There’s just enough difference from their debut to show progression and that they’re not a one trick pony. But, all in all, it’s a cracking track, and would be a welcome addition to any beach trip or Oz indie playlists. For me, you can file Maple Mall, alongside the fresh cohort of Australian indie: Chutney, The Terrys and others.

“Coastin'” is out now. You can keep up to date with Maple Mall via Facebook and Instagram.

You can catch the band alongside Circadia, Chance Magnetic and Ren & The Rudeboys on March 20th at the Servo Food Truck Bar, Port Kembla. For more information and tickets head HERE.
