Track of the Day: Odette feat. Gretta Ray “A Place That I Don’t Know” (2018)

Singer-songwriter Odette has teamed up with fellow Aussie songstress Gretta Ray for a stunning new duet single “A Place That I Don’t Know”.

At just Twenty One years of age, Odette is on path to quickly becoming a household name with her engrossing soulful vocals and evocative lyricism. This year has seen her debut album To A Stranger released, producing critically acclaimed singles “Take It To The Heart” and “Lotus Eaters”.  The record also scored Odette two ARIA Award nominations for Best Adult Contemporary Album and Breakthrough Artist.

Following up from this success, “A Place That I Don’t Know” is a beautifully haunting track in both its musical and lyrical qualities. Inspired by the breakdown of a relationship and “being hurt and isolated from your own home”, the track was tailor-made to harmonise with Gretta Ray’s vocals, and to capture the tone and emotion behind the unsettling nature of a breakup.

Gretta proves to be the ultimate addition to this duet, each voice perfectly complimenting the other as the song builds to a goosebump inducing symphonic climax. The songs narrative like lyrics flawlessly convey the duality of picking up the pieces after an ending as well as the helplessness and empowerment of “yearning for a love that’s let you down and trying to rebuild from something you didn’t even destroy.”

2019 is set to be a big year for Odette who’s playing the annual Falls Festival before jetting off on a quick European tour and debuting at SXSW, all before returning to our shores for a bunch of shows in March and April.
