Track Of The Day: Clio Renner “Collide” (2020)

Clio Renner

Clio Renner is one of those musicians that make the complicated look easy. Accomplished on the keyboards, piano, vocals and songwriter, Renner has worked with some of Australia’s finest over recent years, and this year has provided her with the opportunity to give a greater focus to her own material.  Her debut album, Nothing Breaks, Nothing Mends, will be released on the 27th November. “Collide” is the final single off the album and a great taste of what’s to come.

This is the third single off the album. The first two singles “Silly Girls” and “Slow Burn” leant more heavily on the style of the ballad, delicate and refined. “Collide” is a more upbeat, poppier sound, building with layered guitars and sweet harmonies. It’s a sparkling contrast.

“Collide” is described by Renner as “ a song about avoiding all things confrontational. Dodging the collision. Something that I have found only leads to more trouble, and bigger regrets.”

She began working on the track back in January, with Adam Rhodes (Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly). The album is co-produced by Lawrence Folvig and Brian Campeau.

Renner has worked with Angus and Julia Stone, Deborah Conway, Tim Rogers, Bob Evans, Alex Lahey, G Flip, Killing Heidi, Olympia, Imogen Clark and more. You might have seen her on Rockwiz, where she has been in the house band since 2015.

Nothing Breaks Nothing Mends is released on the 27th November 2020. “Collide’ is out NOW.
