Track of the Day: Broken Bells “Good Luck” (2019)

Aside from last year’s remote release “Shelter”, it’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from Broken Bells, that magical team of The Shins’ James Mercer and mighty producer Danger Mouse. “Good Luck” is the hopeful change to all that, arriving along with the promise of new material for a follow-up to 2014’s After the Disco.

Alexandra Savior, who recently signed with Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records, picks up on additional vocals here, greatly enhancing Mercer’s already rollicking performance that ducks and dodges through the fuzzy groove provided ever so deftly by Mouse. Musing on the tragedy of modern times, Mercer’s poetic lyricism should be a good indicator as to the quality we can expect when the duo continue to roll out more new material.

Until then, listen below and rejoice at the return of the mighty Broken Bells.
