Track of the Day: Ben Catley “Run” (2020)

Ben Catley

Following a massive 2019 where he played shows and festivals all across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and more, Perth-based singer-songwriter Ben Catley has dropped his new single: “Run”.

Describing “Run” as energetic and up-tempo is an understatement. Catley’s guitar work on the track is frenetic and blistering. Whilst, the track might be inspired by Catley’s love of running and using fitness to help the mind and spirit, but it works pretty well as a motivation soundtrack too. You’ll be hitting your personal best, if you try to keep up with the beat here.

Originally from the north of England, Catley has been living in Perth for close to a decade, immersing himself into Western Australian life and its music scene. You can hear elements of its influence here. Catley’s guitar playing in particular is reminiscent of John Butler and similar artists within the Australian folk/roots scene.

Recorded in the Perth hills with Andy Lawson on production duties, “Run” is a high-octane slice of roots rock. Perfect for those long summer nights at the beach or pounding the pavement.

“Run” is available now. You can find Ben Catley on Facebook and Instagram.
