Tour Diary: Patrick James (Port Macquarie) Takes on 13 Aussie Cities For His Debut Album Outlier with The Paper Kites

Born and raised Port Macquarie man Patrick James is quickly moving from strength to strength as he debuts his first album, Outlier. Building his art by busking in the streets of Sydney, James is now headlining his own sold out shows, while supporting the likes of Boy & Bear, Pete Murray, Josh Pyke, Emma Louise and more. Check out this travel diary from James whilst on tour in Australia with The Paper Kites.

Day 1 of tour always feels like the start of an adventure… sometimes you feel like you don’t know how it’s all going to pan out but at the same time you’re excited, everyone is a little nervous, by that I mean just me. This is a flight leaving for the first show in Adelaide with The Paper Kites.

2

We’ve landed in Adelaide for the first show. Some of us are pissed off for no apparent reason… that’s just touring. Mostly over the moon to be here.

3

Checking into the accommodation is sometimes hit and miss… at least we’ve got each other.

4

The Gov in Adelaide… I really love this venue and the sound is always really full and big on stage. The anticipation is building… sort of like the first day of an Ashes test.

5

Cymbals!

6

Always waiting on tour! This is the band at Office Works hanging out whilst I wait for flyers to be printed to promote my own headline tour. The guys made the most of the free water and wifi. All big EPL fans (English Soccer), so they were checking the stats.

7

Kern and I having a beer after the show. Talking about how we played etc (all that important stuff). I am really enjoying the gigs so far… audiences are so attentive and enthusiastic. Generally showing a lot of support for my album that has just come out.

8

Just one of the many perks of being a support act… ‘Harry Potter’ style green room.

9

One of my best friends on tour, although this set up is different…

10

Had a great birthday show in Castlemaine… brought out the party hats on stage.

11

No comments needed…

12

Had a great show in Sydney at the Metro. One of the best crowds on the tour!

13

Manager, tour manager, sound guy, housemate… This is Smitherzzz!

14

Tour down time is vital. Here are the lads checking up on their soccer scores and just having a chill. Notice Joe’s feet hanging over the bed. (later on that will be my head occupying the pillow that his feet are hovering over) so…

Grateful to have had such a great tour. These guys are truly inspiring to me. Thanks Paper Kites!
