The State of Affairs (24 June 2016): performance reports due for local musicians, financial and legal advice for musicians & more!

This week in the music industry: artists are reminded to submit their annual Performance Reports to APRA AMCOS to receive their live performance royalties, and the second installment of the APRA AMCOS and WAM 2016 MISS conference offers essential financial and legal advice for those working in the music industry.

APRA AMCOS Performance Reports

The annual submission deadline for the APRA AMCOS Performance  Reports has been set at July 31 2016. Any musician who has done a live performance within the past year in Australia and/or New Zealand, may be available for royalty payments from  APRA AMCOS.

The Performance Report is an annual online submission form which details when, where and what a musician has played at each live performance. After July 31,  APRA AMCOS will then use the submissions to distribute royalty payments to songwriters whose works have been performed live. The payments are expected to be distributed around November.

More details on the Performance Reports can be found HERE.

2016 Music Industry Sundowner Series: Finance and Law

Besides the obvious glitz and glamour, the entertainment industry is built upon carefully structured financial and legal specifics, which can be quite overwhelming for those looking to break into the industry.

Thus, as part of the second instalment of the 2016 Music Industry Sundowner Series (MISS), APRA AMCOS and WAM are bringing guest speakers Kylie Thompson and Andrew Fuller to share some of their expert financial and legal knowledge, essential for those working in the music industry.

Kylie Thompson is a specialised tax expert who specifically works alongside artists, while Andre Fuller is a lawyer with extensive experience working in the commercial and general media sector.

Held at the Leederville Hotel in Perth, the event will cover topics such as maximising income, handling tax, and an essential guide to music copyright and agreements. Ticket information can be found HERE.
