Yesterday morning would have felt like Festival Christmas for some, with the first round of Meredith Festival 2023 Ballot allocations sliding into inboxes along with a bold line-up announcement for the 31st iteration of the renowned Victorian gathering. The Supernatural Amphitheatre (known as the Sup) is gearing up to open its gates for the ‘Thirty-First and Very First Time’, following an impressive 2022 season with record ticket sales. Over the weekend of December 8-10th, the iconic venue is set to host a musical gathering that promises a pleasure trip into the realm of underground music.
Taking place in its namesake town, Meredith, Victoria the single-stage Sup is nestled underneath a canopy of trees between Ballarat and Geelong. Previous headliner alumni have included The War on Drugs, Animal Collective, Liam Gallagher, Yothu Yindi Joey Badass and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The 2023 edition has once again recruited an impressive roster of artists. The usual of mix of legendary acts such as Kraftwerk, Sneaky Sound System and No Fixed Address gels well with a gaggle of newer players including Floodlights, Telenova, Gut Health and Watty Thompson. Two standout headliners are Caroline Polachek, who has seamlessly transitioned from one-half of Chairlift into a dark-pop princess and indie darlings Alvvays, whose 2022 album Blue Rev was met with critical acclaim. The twenty-nine acts already scheduled are set to be joined by a handful extra of additional artists to be announced.
Alongside the killer line-up the elusive ‘Magic O’Clock’ will strike throughout the three-day extravaganza, promising mystique and spontaneity alongside the musical talent. The extra bells and whistles of Meredith fun include an ever-revolving Ferris Wheel, the famous Pink Flamingo bar and the coveted The Meredith Gift, a nude run that closes the festivities of the weekend.
Meredith’s ticketing system only adds to the excitement of the weekend, with the majority of tickets available via the e-mail Subscriber Ticket Ballot. Two rounds of ticketing codes (aptly named Meredith Keys) are distributed to those who sign-up, with preference been giving to previous attendees. After that – the limited general ticketing opens to those who’ve missed out; though with this year’s line-up, we will be surprised if the sales last long at all.
