Single of the Day: Allen Stone “Brown Eyed Lover” (2018)

We first came across Allen Stone during one of his trips out to Australia for Bluesfest, we’re gonna say around 2013. Instantly drawn in by his on stage demeanour and powerful vocals, the US songwriter has been a consistent favourite of the AU’s (and many more Australian fans) since.

This week, we caught wind of there being a new Stone album in the pipeline for later this year, with new single “Brown Eyed Lover” being released from it. Detailing the struggles of long distance relationships and the balance between that and a flourishing career, the song thumps with rhythm and sass. “I don’t wanna keep her waiting,” Stone belts out throughout the song, emphatically reminding the listener where his focus is.

“I am a slave to the road,” he has explained. “Constantly in a different city, always on the other side of town, never in the same bed for more than a night. It seemed as though I chose a lifestyle that wasn’t lending itself to be shared with a partner. That was until I met my soon to be wife. “Brown Eyed Lover” depicts the internal struggle of being in a relationship while also being on the road…”
