Melbourne’s Vermont take us behind the scenes of filming the music video for “Erased”

Vermont

Last month Victorian outfit Vermont released their first track of 2021, “Erased”. This followed on from their well-received self-titled EP which dropped last year.

They’ve amped up their sound in a grittier sonic direction, with the familiar alt-rock and some electronica elements threaded throughout. They might have cranked things up, but there is still a strong melody running through the track.

To celebrate the release of the track, Vermont have provided the AU with a behind the scenes look at what went into putting together the video for “Erased”. The director/videographer was Cian Marangos of The AV Club. Read on.

The video concept for “Erased” came about due to the electronic elements being introduced into this new direction that we’re taking Vermont. The sounds and tonality inspired us to create a music video that encapsulated a dystopian, futuristic and industrial feeling video; think Bladerunner, Akira and all those futuristic dystopian genres of film. From there we came up with a basic concept around a typical detective and villain storyline but we wanted a little twist; we won’t spoil it so you’ll need to see the video to find out for yourself. We approached Cian of The AV Club to flesh out the storyboard and make it a cohesive piece of film. With our back and forth, we finalised the story, scouted a few locations and got the ball rolling for this shoot. On the days of the shoot, we had a lot of fun and let Cian bring our vision to life in both the story and performance elements which we feel came out better than we had anticipated.

A whole band shot being captured in the moment but little can you see that we’re sweating like crazy through those layers but we do it for the aesthetic

Villain Hideout

As part of the story, we had to add a villain hideout with old retro electronics that we raided from our grandmas and grandpas’ places. Yes kids, TVs use to look like that.

Not the villain

Our drummer was hoping to cop a supporting role in this feature length film but instead settled for stunt double and prop handler

Can we fix it?

We swear that no mannequins were harmed in the making of this video. It was just a little crack, it’s still good, it’s still good
