Tonight in Sydney, 18 plaques will be unveiled across the city in front of shut down venues, a move by Keep Sydney Open to further highlight how damaging the Callinan review of the State Government’s lockout laws have been to Sydney’s live music culture. The venues involved have been integral to many artists and represent poignant stages of their careers; whether it be a stage where they first cut their teeth, held residencies or met other members of their band.
Keep Sydney Open volunteers will also be at each of these venues (including the likes of Q Bar, Piano Room, Soho, Spectrum and The Lansdowne) tonight establishing floral tributes and candles for those who want to ‘pay their respects’ to a live culture that has been crumbling under the pressures and weight of these lockout laws. The artists set to be commemorated on the 18 plaques are:
