Interview: KLP (AUS) on her debut LP Giver, pregnancy inspiration, and drag racing

You might know KLP from many places: she was your Saturday night ‘House Party’ host on Triple J from 2015 to 2018, before wrapping up to start her journey into motherhood. She’s also performed at all of Australia’s biggest festivals from Splendour to Falls, and has featured on tracks by the likes of Slumberjack, What So Not, Skrillex and Young Franco. To this day, she still gets messages about her unmissable remix of the Play School theme song.

Having released two well-received EPs, the time has come for the dance music artist to drop her debut album and you’re going to want to give it a listen. What stands out about this body of work is the emotional and experience-driven lyrics behind each song. Have a good listen and you’ll be able to track KLP through her pregnancy, from how she was physically feeling to fear and uncertainty, losing herself in a relationship, to people pleasing and empowerment.

We got to sit down with her in the place where it all came together: her attic home studio in Sydney’s inner-west. Equipped with a week-old air-conditioning, it was the perfect opportunity to find out more about KLP in a long form chat, and boy did we find out a lot!

She also played a quick round of Tait’s 8 Quick-fire Questions and her final answer definitely dropped a bombshell:
