Exclusive Video Premiere: Simon Robert Gibson “You Look Good in a T-Shirt” (2023)

Simon Robert Gibson

Simon Robert Gibson has been a member of many Sydney bands since the early ’90s, usually behind the drumkit. In 2020 he released his debut solo album and has recently released “You Look Good in a T-Shirt”, the first single from his forthcoming third album. The track has a warm local feel to it, referencing familiar touchpoints such as ocean swimming, t-shirts and The Big Day Out. We are thrilled today to be premiering the video for the song. We can also announce that his album, Same Ocean Different Sea will be released on the 19th of May.

His vocals have a warmth to them with a beguiling charm, and the cadence to “You Look Good in a T-Shirt” has a nostalgic feel to it. Fans of The Go-Betweens and The Lemonheads are going to crush on this.

The track also references some great bands, including Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. The video has our two main characters wearing a number of band t-shirts. One particularly fine shirt showcases some of our favourite Aussie acts including Meg Mac, DMA’S, Andy Golledge and a load more. Nothing disarms more than someone in a t-shirt of a band you admire. Who else can you spot?

About the track, Simon writes: “It’s a song about being appreciative when someone brings some sunshine and warmth into your life. When that person throws on a t-shirt that you bought for them and it just looks perfect immediately…well I just expanded on that idea….you look good in a t-shirt so you’re welcome to wear any of mine. And if their music tastes and whole attitude seems to mirror yours well, it’s just a great feeling!

Simon was a founding member of Disneyfist and later Modern Giant and an original member of The Aerial Maps, along with his brother Adam Gibson. You can spot an Aerial Maps t-shirt in the clip.

Simon will be playing a couple of shows in June in Sydney and Melbourne. Details are below.
