Singer/songwriter K Mak creates vivid electropop and recently dropped her sophomore single, “It’s You”. K Mak, the moniker for classically trained Kathryn McKee integrates strings with electronic beats, with the result being a heady mix of emotive pop. We are thrilled today to be premiering the video for this track, ahead of her debut album.
About the track, K Mak writes: “I wrote it at the piano at home, when I was going out with one person but couldn’t get my ex off my mind. It’s You was my way of dealing with it, a place to put my feelings.”.
Expanding further she says: “It’s about running away from a feeling because someone isn’t as cute, cool, or sassy as you thought they should be. And looking for love elsewhere, only to realise you had the one in the first place. You know that rush that comes when you admit the truth to yourself about something? That’s what the chorus is to me. The verses are for grabbing your tissues and the choruses for dancing and crying at the same time.”
About the video, K Mak told the AU, “When I had the idea for this film clip I thought – uh oh, I think I’ll need Warner Brothers to pull this off. So I was amazed when it all started coming together… iconic Brisbane venues The Tivoli, Customs House and the Red Hill Cinemas coming on board, plus the drone at the end. We somehow managed to smash it out from start to finish in two weeks. Much quicker than Warner Brothers methinks!”
