Last week, Perth pop artist Hannah Stow released her stirring new single “I Never Changed”, a track where she is pouring her heart out in the wake of a difficult breakup. We’re blessed today to be able to premiere the video, ahead of its release later in the week.
About the track Hannah writes: “This track is about giving someone everything and them being fake and switching up who they are whilst you stay consistent. Being so bound by the bare minimum and lowering your expectations when you date someone. Forgetting your worth and begging them to stay and hear you out. Trying to be what they need when you don’t even believe in yourself enough to stand by what you need.”
It was a thrill to have this track arrive in our inbox. We featured Hannah’s debut EP, Sidelined, last year, and the new track is an affirmation of her talented songwriting. “I Never Changed” is punchy, emotive and beautifully evocative. Hannah knows how to take you on a journey. On “I Never Changed” she has delivered a cathartic break-up banger.
The video captures the heartbreak in a domestic setting. Hannah is taking the starring role, and shared with the AU the following: “The music video was so fun to make. We put a call out the week of filming asking if anyone was available to play a male lead role and Goon said yes the day of filming. When we rocked up it was the first time I’d actually met him and we were about to have a fake argument. I wanted the audience to be able to relate to all the moments in life when they’ve been let down by someone they love. I wanted them to feel the waiting up, the lies, the ghosted plans and the lack of intention in our ‘relationship’ and really sit with those emotions. Working with Wesley Black and Asmara (Tobias) was crazy as they have so much experience in acting, filming and directing so it was great to collaborate and pull together something so raw.”
They’ve done a great job with this. It rings true, and it feels like we are a fly on the wall in a messy breakup. You feel like you shouldn’t be watching, but you can’t tear yourself away either.
Hannah will be performing at Milk Bar in Perth on the 8th of August (TICKETS).
