Melbourne pop-punk five-piece This Space is Ours have shared their new single “Apology” with us ahead of its official release tomorrow.

Recorded between Pony Music, Studio Delos and United POP in Melbourne, “Apology” is This Space is Ours’ second collaboration with accomplished producer Beau McKee (Earth Caller, Between You & Me). Driving drums with an offbeat snare and electrifying guitars with a tight solo make this latest offering the band’s strongest to date.

The summery melodies contrast the darker lyrics of sadness and defeat, while frontwoman Gemma Dunsmore’s sultry vocals convey raw emotion in a captivating low register. In lines like ‘What hurts you will always hurt me too’, the heartbreaking honesty is punctuated by catchy melodies and big hooks to let the meaning really sink in.

“The lyrics of the song tackle the tough situation of falling out of love with the person you’re with. When things seem to have gone stale and cold but you’re not quite ready to address it, out of the fear of letting go.”

Accompanying the single is a sci-fi animated lyric video created by Joanne Lee, featuring a punk astronaut travelling through the galaxy in a spaceship while lamenting lost love. Some of the various images that appear in the clip include a purple rose, Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas (a reference to Blink-182’s “I Miss You”, perhaps?), and a chainsaw.

“Apology” will be available to stream as of 15 March. Follow This Space is Ours on Facebook and Instagram for more!
