Exclusive Single Premiere: Poison Oak “Little Bit Like You” (2025)

Poison Oak

Last year, we fell in love with Townsville rockers Poison Oak when we premiered their single “Wasted“, and we are bloody excited to have the first listen of their latest anthemic new tune, the cranking “Little Bit Like You”.  This is the latest single to drop from their upcoming new album, and will be released on Friday to all streaming services.

As with their earlier releases, there are some fabulous guitars on “Little Bit Like You”. It has a jangly garage-rock feel to it. They take us on a summery, breezy jaunt as they navigate the reality of getting older, looking at the younger generation, knowing that ‘hey, we did that too, back in the day’. Poison Oak possesses the solid musicianship and lyrical chops to craft a tune that is tailor-made for an audience eager to sing loud and proud.

About the new track, the band writes: “‘Little Bit Like You’, is a song about reflecting on your youth and how much you have changed; however, you are still the same person. The song comes from the perspective of someone in their adulthood, letting someone much younger know that they were once young and stupid too – ‘I used to be a little bit like you, pour my cash on the things I thought were cool’.

The song is influenced by James’ experience as a high school teacher. Often, students stereotype their teacher, thinking they have no understanding/knowledge of youth and the chaos of teenage existence. While the song metaphorically states that ‘I’ used to be as ‘wild’ as you, and where has the time gone?! The song also touches on the mundane nature of adulthood – ‘Punching nails in the house I do own, the bills, it kills, my spirits gone’.”

I love the chaotic, fun, and multifaceted nature of “Little Bit Like You”. There’s a retro feel that also fits in thematically. It will totally rock when played live. Be sure to pre-save it HERE ahead of its release on Friday, and enjoy this first listen.
