Exclusive Single Premiere: Hugh Klein “Quand C’est Mou” (2020)

Hugh Klein

We’re delighted to be kicking off the week with the exclusive premiere of “Quand C’est Mou”; the exquisite debut release from Melbourne composer and musician Hugh Klein.

Recorded between France and Melbourne, “Quand C’est Mou” explores ideas of awakening, rebirth and genuine intimacy. The ‘theme’, as Klein describes the single, forms part of a larger conversation he had, grappling with these ideas, over the course of the album No Plans, No Rules, which will be released later this year.

Almost certainly all of us will encounter points during our lifetime where we must take steps away or outward, and redesign how we place ourselves in this world. Whilst living in Paris, France, this movement was drenched in passion, excitement and what felt like eyes seeing the world and the souls in it as if they were meeting for the first time. Finding intimacy in more than surface encounters… desire, words, conversation, romance, sounds, environment, expression. – Hugh Klein.

Those themes of intimacy and awakening are developed beautifully across the single’s runtime, with the delicate piano drawing the listener in. All in all it’s a well realised piece of music that is both relaxing and meditative. Like all good instrumental music, it successfully and adeptly captures and evokes mood and emotion. It’ll be interesting to see how it fits into the album’s wider musical narrative. But, even as a standalone piece it works wonderfully.

You can pre-save “Quand C’est Mou” ahead of its release tomorrow HERE.

But, until then you can stream it below.

“Quand C’est Mou” officially releases August 4th. The album No Rules, No Plans releases later this year. Keep up to date with Hugh Klein via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
