Exclusive Single Premiere: Grids and Dots “City Skies” (2021)

Grids and Dots

Grids and Dots,  the Sydney indie outfit are about to drop their second single for 2021, “City Skies”. It’s an upbeat and lush tune, with beautiful rich guitars and sweet harmonies. “City Skies’ will be on their upcoming EP, What Happens to Friendships. We are thrilled to be premiering “City Skies” ahead of its release tomorrow. The EP is due to be released on 26th March 2021.

“City Skies” is a song which grabs you on the first listen. The song has a joyous groove to it and is decidedly upbeat, which is an interesting contrast to the reflective nature of the lyrics. The beautiful vocals of Daniel Handaru and Carmen Minikus complement each other perfectly and the harmonies bring it to the next level.

The track is more uptempo than their previous release, “What Happens to Friendships in Winter?” which had a strong shoegaze feel to it. The two songs highlight the creativity and dexterity of the four-piece.

The band said of the development of the song: “The song City Skies went through a couple of different iterations before we settled on the fact that even though the lyrics are quite romantic and a tiny bit melancholic, the song itself should be a banger. That juxtaposition of heartsick lyrics with a jubilant, uptempo accompaniment.”

The track was recorded at Hercules Street Studios in Surry Hills with Wayne Connolly (Paul Dempsey, You Am I).
