Naarm’s Duxie Franklin has a gift for creating upbeat earworms, and she strikes again with her new single, “Wasting Time”, which we are thrilled to be premiering ahead of its release on Friday. The single is taken from her forthcoming EP, In The Pool, Wasting Time, which will drop on the 18th of July.
I think we all have our own idea of what constitutes wasting time. Is sitting in front of the tele watching GoggleBox, wasting time? Is scrolling on your socials wasting time? Is heading out for a country drive wasting time? Duxie shares with the AU her take on ‘Wasting Time’: “How often do we get told to ‘stop wasting time’? But what really is ‘wasting time’? Who gets to decide what is valuable to do and what is not? My new single is about celebrating the joys of time well spent, in whatever way we choose, even if that means doing nothing. It’s an anthem for everyone that just wants to exist and revel in the amazingness that is simply being!”
With Duxie’s bright and breezy vocals, there is little chance of feeling morose listening to “Wasting Time”. The melody glides along, and the harmonies are ever so sweet. The instrumentation is also packed with joie de vivre – it’s lucious and mirthful to the core. And let’s not forget the guitars – there’s some serious shredding going on here. You can feel some lovely Joni Mitchell influences seeping through.
