Aussies at SXSW: Spotlight on 2016 Showcase Artists Tigertown!

The sun is shining in Austin, the beers are flowing and the smells of Texan BBQ are teasing us into what’s going to be a week of indulgence. Monday spells the beginning of the SXSW Music program for 2016 and we’ve done for the last few years, the AU will be bringing you some exclusive content from the various venues and live showcases around the city. As part of our coverage of the Aussies making the journey out for SXSW this year, one band we’re particularly keen to see out here again is Tigertown. Having made another impact on American crowds with their recent tour with St. Lucia, the group is back in Austin for another round and they tell us a bit more about what they’re expecting from it all!

Who are you, what band do you play in and what do you do in said band?

My name is Alexi Collins and I play keyboard in a band called Tigertown.

Have you played SXSW below? If so, how many times?

Yes, we played our first SXSW last year.

Tell us a highlight of your past experiences?

Catfish and the Bottlemen put on a pretty rad show last year.

Tell us a lowlight?

Last year we stayed in an apartment above a nightclub. Trying to sleep at 2am while our apartment vibrated in time with the music music be a lowlight.

What’s one piece of advice you’d have for newcomers to the festival?

Houndstooth Coffee!

What are you hoping will come out of this year’s event for you?

We’re just really excited to play our music to people who might not have heard us before.

Why should SXSW attendees come and see you?

We’ve got a bunch of new songs to play and they are really fun to play live.

What is a track you think best represents where your band is right now and what audiences can expect from your sound and your set?

What made you want to showcase at SXSW?

We had an amazing experience last year and we’re excited to do it again with more confidence.

Do you have any dream collaborations?

Would love to have Janet Jackson sing with us sometime.

How much more US touring is on the cards for this year?

We just finished touring the East Coast of America with our friends St. Lucia, which was a lot of fun. Hopefully we’ll be back in the US later this year, but nothing planned yet.

How do you think / hope the American crowd will receive your music?

America has actually heard more of our new music than Australia. It seems like they’ve been enjoying it.

What other Aussie act playing SXSW would you recommend the rest of the world needs to see?

Spookyland and Phebe Starr.

Please list your SXSW showcases (to now) and give us a link where we can find your most up to date list!

March 16th | New Shapes (Outside) at Cheer Up Charlie’s

March 17th | STUBHub at Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden

March 18th | Neon Gold Showcase at the Empire Control Room & Garage

We’re excited to come home after SXSW to play these new tunes around Australia!
