Alice Ivy, Gang of Youths, Gordi and more round out this year’s Vanda and Young Songwriting comp shortlist

The shortlist for this year’s Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition has been unveiled today, with submissions from all over the globe being considered for the ultimate prize – AUD $50,000 cash from APRA AMCOS, Alberts and BMG, not to mention an AUD $5,000 travel package from the Show Group.

For this year’s competition, 3,296 songwriters entered songs with their entry fees directly contributing to almost $203,000 raised for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia. A fantastic cause that the competition has back since the start, 2018 has been the most successful fundraising year, pushing the total amount of money raised since the competition’s inception past $1 million dollars.

Representing on this year’s shortlist are entries from some of Australia’s brightest, with Amy SharkAlice IvyGordiGang of Youths and Georgi Kay all landing multiple nominations. Appearing for the first time in the shortlist are artists including Dean LewisAngie McMahon and Mallrat.

Aside from the grand prize, two runners up will receive AUD $10,000 and AUD $5,000 for second and third place respectively, courtesy of AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association) and Seventh Street Media. Also included in this year’s competition is AUD $5,000 for best ‘Unpublished Work’.
