GTA 5 is free right now on the Epic Games Store

GTA 5, one of the most popular and successful video games of all time, is free right now on the Epic Games Store.

The reason the game has had such a dramatic cut in price is due to the Epic Mega Sale, a mid-year event that applies significant discounts to popular games. Throughout each week of the sale, Epic is making one “mystery title” available for free. This week, it’s GTA 5. The game will remain available free of charge until Thursday, May 21.

To be completely clear: this is the Windows PC version of GTA 5. Therefore, if you have a PC that can run the game, then you’ll be fine. If you don’t, grab it anyway, what could it hurt?

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to download the Epic Games Launcher and create an account with two-factor authentication activated. From there, the game is yours to grab (and keep) and for free. Be aware that news of its inclusion has caused traffic on the Epic Store to spike massively. The store may run slowly or even be down by the time you read this. Play it by ear. You’ve got all week.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was developed by Rockstar Games and originally released in 2013. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
