Gallery: The art of The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood

Elder Scrolls Online Blackwood

If you can look at this Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood concept art and not hear the Skyrim theme, you might be fibbing. Bethesda’s popular MMORPG is enjoying something of a golden age. The return of daedric lord Mehrunes Dagon has drawn many old and relapsed fans back into the fold. The latest in a string of smaller, denser expansions due to pandemic restrictions, Blackwood also boasts some of the coolest concept art the series has ever seen.

Honestly, have a flick through the Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood concept art gallery below and tell us you wouldn’t frame any of these for your wall.

Magic. Pure magic. Talented artists create pieces like this to set the tone and tenor of a project’s visual style. Concept art can also help a specific visual take shape. Here, we see biomes from Blackwood and Elswyer in their nascent forms. The teams take these striking snapshots and turn them into vibrant, three-dimensional art.

Sadly, outside of art book collectors and those within the studio, few get to see all this great work. We’re pretty stoked to get to show you just a few pieces today.

The pieces in this gallery were created by artists Joseph Watmough, Corey Loving, Jeremy Fenske, Steve Shi, and Lucas Slominski. Since creating their pieces, Loving, Fenske, and Shi have departed Zenimax Online Studios. Look them up — they’ve worked on many other games you know and love.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood is out now on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can find out more at ElderScrollsOnline.com.
