First look at Planet Zoo 2 revealed, showcasing next-generation simulation and conservation efforts

The team at Frontier Developments has officially lifted the lid on the highly anticipated sequel to its beloved zoo management sim, unveiling a world-exclusive first look at Planet Zoo 2 gameplay during this year’s PC Gaming Show.

Promising a significant generational leap in both visual fidelity and gameplay depth, the title is slated to launch across Windows PC and current-generation consoles on October 13th, 2026.

Described as Frontier’s most authentic simulation to date, Planet Zoo 2 introduces high-fidelity details across fur, feathers, and scales, paired with dynamic, mood-based animal behaviours.

Most notably for franchise fans, players will now be able to build custom aquariums and aviaries that accommodate fully aquatic and flying species for the very first time. There are a ton of new species spotted in the trailer, all of which look spectacular with the updated graphics and gameplay shown here.

Frontier have impressed us with their past titles, including the Planet Coast and Jurassic World Evolution series, and the first Planet Zoo game is still a staple in my gaming rotation. Seeing how much the gameplay, graphics and the range of animals have evolved just from this trailer alone is enough to make us ridiculously excited.

Beyond the expanded construction and aesthetics, the sequel places a major emphasis on real-world conservation and rewilding.

The ultimate goal will mirror that of global zoological projects: nurturing species and restoring damaged environments to eventually release animals back into their natural, thriving habitats. The recent gameplay trailer highlights this shift beautifully, showcasing the breathtaking Scottish Highland Wildlife Reserve as the perfect home for the Red Deer and White-tailed Eagle.

The expansive new animal roster also includes the Masai Giraffe, Blackspotted Puffer, Great Hornbill, Eurasian Beaver, and the previously announced Grey Wolf, Sumatran Tiger, and Toco Toucan. Housing them will utilise Frontier’s iconic piece-by-piece construction mechanics, which have been bolstered by an expanded terrain editor and thousands of new scenery blueprints.

Early adopters will receive a Bonus Content Pack featuring the Toucan Eat Shop, unique donation bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall, while a Deluxe Edition is available for dedicated virtual conservationists, bringing an additional six global species and exclusive decorative signage to the game.

The full trailer blends CGI and gameplay, showing just how much love and detail have been put into this game. We have only just scratched the surface of what the game has to offer, and I can’t wait to see more.

Planet Zoo 2 will launch on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC on the 13th of October, 2026.
