Sydney will be treated to an enchanted fairy-tale in the form of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
The Capitol Theatre will host the Australian premiere of a production presented by Opera Australia and the Gordon Frost Organisation, who previously partnered together for The King and I.
Debuting in on Broadway in 2013, the award-winning Cinderella is a fresh take on the story of a young lady transformed from a chambermaid into a princess. The classic elements including the masked ball, glass slippers and pumpkin will feature alongside some contemporary surprises that will appeal to modern audiences.
“Rodgers & Hammerstein have written some of the most beautiful scores in musical theatre including The Sound of Music, Carousel and Oklahoma, and we’re thrilled to continue our association with this lush and romantic new production,” said producers John Frost and Lyndon Terracini.
This incarnation of Cinderella will see the titular character be both spirited and savvy in her quest for kindness. She and her Prince will discover that dreams can come true.
“Featuring incredible orchestrations, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love from the classic story, you’ll be transported back to your childhood and also be delighted by the contemporary twists,” said the producers.
Tickets for this bewitching love story open for pre-sale on April 26th, with general sale kicking off on April 30th.
