Don’t miss these 3 events at Sydney Opera House’s All About Women

All About Women

It’s that time of year again. A time when people gather together to listen to incredible speakers discussing some of the most interesting and relevant topics facing women today. For more than 10 years All About Women at the Sydney Opera House has shone a light on, not only the discussions we are having, but the ones we should be.

This year is no exception.

Held every year in honour of International Women’s Day (March 8), also know as the only day of the year that men (“not all men”) are interested in talking about International Men’s Day (19 November, fyi), this year’s festival is set to explore issues of equality, justice and bodily autonomy.

The line up is out and includes some incredible names such as Emmy nominated comedian, actress and writer Kate Berlant (she/her), and cultural commentator, comedian and author Lucinda ‘Froomes’ Price (she/her), among many others.

Here’s my top 3 must-see talks:

The Baby Boycott

More than ever before, the decision whether or not to have children actually feels like a choice rather than a forgone conclusion. With birth rates dropping, and women having more agency over their bodies and their lives, some are opting out of having kids. Liz Allen, Laura Henshaw and Gina Rushton will discuss the many reason why this is the case.

State of Emergency

With an expert panel including Zahra Al Hilaly, Rosie Batty, Kyllie Cripps, Jess Hill and Julie Inman Grant, the discussion will once again turn to the ever increasing rates of domestic violence. Despite being called a ‘national crisis’ by the Prime Minister, little has changed, with rates of domestic violence increasing in the last two years.

This conversation will never stop being important.

Your Body, Whose Choice?

The overturning of Roe v. Wade by the US Supreme Court shocked the world and started conversations of whether this could ever happen in Australia. As we continue to see the horrific aftereffects of this decision in America, the panel, including Jane Caro, Summer May Finlay and Charlotte Mortlock, will discuss the current state of play here at home.

All About Women will take place on the 8th and 9th March 2025 at the Sydney Opera House. To see the full schedule and to book tickets head to the Sydney Opera House website.
