Exclusive Single Premiere: Tomi Gray “Oh My Darling” (2026)

Tomi Gray

Australian genre-bender Tomi Gray is forever restless in his pursuit of keeping us entertained and stretching himself creatively. His latest single “Oh My Darling” is further proof. Today we’re excited to be premiering both the track and its delightfully surreal accompanying video ahead of its official release tomorrow, 9 October.

Blending alternative folk and rock with Gray’s distinctive storytelling, “Oh My Darling” has an easy melodic pull. What it’s actually wrestling with is far more complicated: the gap between understanding why somebody has hurt you and actually being able to move beyond that hurt.

The video is a tad different to the usual. Rather than illustrating that idea literally, Gray takes a considerably stranger route, sending an emu wearing his face rampaging through the Australian bush. It’s funny and absurd on the surface, but beneath the chaos sits a sharper idea about identity, memory, and the vision we leave behind in other people’s minds.

Gray explains:

“The song sits in that space between fault and consequence — understanding why someone hurt you doesn’t make the hurt disappear. The video turns that idea inside out: an emu wearing my face tears through the Australian bush causing havoc, leaving my identity to carry the blame. It’s about the strange versions of ourselves that live in other people’s memories — they might wear our face, but they’re not entirely us.”

For all the theatricality surrounding his work, “Oh My Darling” ultimately comes back to Gray’s songwriting. It’s bags of fun, and a feathered doppelgänger running amok through the bush certainly helps, yet the song’s message still comes through loud and clear. Gray’s increasingly peculiar creative universe is definitely worth the visit.

It’s an appropriately unconventional visual for an artist whose work increasingly crosses music, theatre, comedy and visual art. In 2026, Gray expanded that world with Tomi Gray’s TRIP, his one-man stage production combining live music, surreal comedy, storytelling, puppetry, animation, projection and audience interaction, which debuted at Adelaide Fringe before heading out under the Infamous Big Top.

“Oh My Darling” is the latest taste of Tomi Gray’s forthcoming album Are We Having Fun Yet, due for release in 2027. The track is officially released tomorrow, 9 October. For now, you can watch the video and hear the track exclusively on the AU review below.
