A night at Brisbane’s Boom Boom Room: Sensual flavours and late night energy

Tucked beneath the streets of Brisbane, Boom Boom Room isn’t just a place to eat – it’s a full-bodied, late-night experience that leans into mood, music, and indulgence. Equal parts supper club and sensory playground, it promises modern Asian dining with a theatrical edge – and it delivers.

From the moment you step inside, the ambience does a lot of the heavy lifting. Low lighting, plush textures, and a steady pulse of music set the tone for a night that gradually evolves – starting with smooth, jazz-leaning sets before giving way to more energetic, late-night club vibes. The live entertainment adds a distinctive layer: vocalist Alyson Joyce brings a polished, soulful presence, while Rielle La’Vish offers a burlesque performance that’s playful, sultry, and a welcome mid-meal shift in energy. It’s a combination that shouldn’t work on paper, but in practice, it adds to the venue’s sense of occasion.

On the food front, the menu is designed for sharing, with a pan-Asian influence that spans from Japan to Vietnam. Standouts came quickly. The yellowfin tuna nori taco was a highlight – fresh, fragrant, and cleverly constructed, with just enough spice to lift the delicate tuna without overpowering it. The wagyu yakitori followed as a clear favourite: deeply succulent, rich without being heavy, and easily one of the most memorable bites of the night.

The king prawn rice paper rolls were fresh and satisfying, while the steamed lobster sui mai leaned into theatricality – generous in portion and visually striking as it arrived. The crispy soft shell crab bao was another hit, balancing crunch, heat, and softness in a way that felt indulgent but not overwhelming.

Drinks, however, are where a bit of strategy comes in. Cocktails like the Dead Ringer and What a Girl Wants pack a serious punch, with tequila-forward profiles that don’t hold back. They’re well-crafted, but perhaps better suited to later in the evening – something to sip once you’ve settled into the rhythm of the night rather than alongside your first course.

What ultimately elevates Boom Boom Room is the service and overall experience. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, and there’s a clear sense of care in how the evening unfolds. It’s the kind of place that feels tailored for a date night – intimate, a little decadent, and unapologetically sensual.

By the end of the night, it’s clear that Boom Boom Room isn’t trying to be just a restaurant. It’s curating a mood – one that blends flavour, performance, and atmosphere into something memorable. Overall, as an experience it’s confident, immersive, and undeniably fun.
