Driven by a warm, intoxicating and upbeat groove, Boorloo-based soul/funk singer-songwriter Navisha returns with her new single “You”, officially out this Friday, February 13. Wrapped in rhythm and sensual tension, the track leans into desire, temptation and passion — arriving perfectly timed to soundtrack Valentine’s Day.
“You” centres on intimacy, young love and lived moments — capturing affection as something felt rather than announced. In contrast to her earlier releases, the track leans further into funk-influenced grooves, allowing rhythm to carry the emotional weight while Navisha’s velvety voice remains the focal point. As she explains: “I wrote ‘You’ following the journey of finding myself when I realised I was in love as a teenager, which I think we can all agree makes you blind to anything else happening around you. Carefree with only one thing on my mind, the energy of the song plays on that exact sentiment — forgetting about everything else and just being immersed in the moment, and just DANCE or GROOVE, or whatever makes your body feel good. The goal was to create a song that you can’t get out of your head, the same way you can’t get that person off your mind when you’re in love.”
Built on full-bodied electric guitars, smooth keys and a steady groove, each component of “You” fits like a glove. There is a sweet diffusion of sensual phrasing amidst the beautiful electric guitar lines that tease and delight. There is poise and potency to her performance that is intoxicating.
A WAAPA graduate, 19-year-old Navisha has quickly become recognised for songwriting that balances raw, heartbreaking ballads with feel-good rhythms. Her previous independent releases, including “See Through”, reached #12 on local charts and helped establish her presence in the Western Australian music scene, alongside a run of headline shows throughout 2025.
With its flirtatious pulse and romantic heat, “You” is made for late-night connection and slow-burning celebration. Hear it first here, before experiencing it live at Navisha’s headline single-launch show on Saturday, February 21 at the Indian Ocean Hotel, Perth. Get on down if you can and support live music.
