Exclusive Single Premiere: Ice Cream Hands “Tambourine Mountain” (2026)

Icecream Hands

the AU review is thrilled to bring you the exclusive single and video premiere of “Tambourine Mountain”, the warmly reflective new single from Australian favourites Icecream Hands.

Premiering today ahead of its official single release this Friday, “Tambourine Mountain” is taken from Icecream Hands’ eighth album, Giant Fox Pineapple Tree, which is out now on vinyl, CD, and digital. The album is available directly via Bandcamp and across streaming services — except on Spotify.

Written during a moment of unexpected intimacy and reflection, the song’s origins are deeply human. Frontman Charles Jenkins explains:

“I was convalescing in a hospital bed when the old timer across the way kept regaling me with stories from his youth. He spoke of standing atop a mountain, describing the hinterland below. Eventually, in my own fuzzy state, I realised he thought he was back there. His seventh-floor hospital bed had become his childhood bedroom. That led to the beginnings of this song.”

That sense of blurred memory and gentle dislocation runs through “Tambourine Mountain”, a song that unfolds with patience and grace. It’s reflective without slipping into nostalgia, guided by melody and feel rather than urgency — hallmarks of the songwriting Icecream Hands have quietly refined over decades. It’s packed with exquisite harmonies and beautiful guitars.

The accompanying video created by Derek G Smiley mirrors that understated spirit, favouring atmosphere and emotional presence over spectacle. Its dreamy nature allows the song to breathe, reinforcing the quiet power of its story and the band’s finesse in creating sumptuously layered melodic pop/rock.

Giant Fox Pineapple Tree, stands as a must-have addition to the Icecream Hands catalogue — an album that rewards full-album listening, whether discovered via Bandcamp or across the band’s preferred streaming platforms.
