We’re thrilled to be premiering “Casa Diablo”, the tantalising first single from Golden Age, the forthcoming second album from L.A. Mood—the solo project of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Mudie.
Written while on holiday in Mexico and recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland, Oregon, “Casa Diablo” captures that blend of sun-soaked surrealism and nocturnal mystique. Driven by jangling guitars and rhythmic handclaps, “Casa Diablo” unfolds with a woozy, magnetic energy that blurs the line between fantasy and the real world. It features Bob Harrow (Super American Eagle) on vocals, and bass and mixing by Collin Hegna (The Brian Jonestown Massacre).
“This song represents a journey into a surreal, dreamlike world where reality and fantasy blur together,” says Mudie. “It was inspired by late-night drives, neon-lit streets, and the idea of a place that exists somewhere between heaven and hell.”
The single arrives alongside a stunning, trippy animated video created by Little Richard’s Almanac, the Asheville-based art collective founded by Ron Laboray and Niki Elliott. Known for their work with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Federale, LRA’s stream-of-consciousness visuals bring “Casa Diablo” to life through an abstract collage that mirrors the song’s hypnotic pull.
Best known as the longtime drummer for Courtney Barnett, Mudie has played in over 40 bands and projects, including collaborations with Jess Ribeiro, Jade Imagine, Super American Eagle, and Evan Dando of The Lemonheads. With L.A. Mood, he takes centre stage — blending the warmth of vintage psych-rock with infectious pop energy and a cinematic sense of mood.
Set for release in 2026, Golden Age promises to be L.A. Mood’s most expansive and self-assured work yet. Before the album drops, we are promised a string of singles, all anchored by Mudie’s masterful sense of groove and atmosphere.
“Casa Diablo” will be released on Thursday. In the meantime, enjoy this exclusive premiere.
