New Music Discoveries 18th July: Saint Victoire, Darcie Haven, Deep Sea Arcade, and more

As we hit the mid-way point in July, this week we have added ten new tracks to our Discovery Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. Our track of the week is “The Mill” from alt-folk-rockers Saint Victoire, who hail from Naarm.

The song came about as a dream from front woman Heidi Waddell, where she was pondering the pressures and expectations felt from the heavy load carried to constantly excel in her personal and professional life.

Heidi writes: “I feel the weight of the expectations we put on ourselves to constantly produce, to try and fit into a mould that society deems ‘acceptable’—and even then, we’re told our best effort isn’t enough, as if what we do is where our value lies. This song is about acknowledging all of that and saying, ‘I won’t take it all on me. Don’t take it all on you.’ Just don’t give those ideas power anymore.”

It’s a high-energy, heartfelt track, which has been a fan favourite in their live shows and has now been recorded by the band. It’s gritty and real, as they sing of the struggle of the grind. If you like this and are in Naarm, then you can catch them this Saturday night, at Sooki Lounge in Belgrave, in anticipation of their new EP, I Once Loved You, Summer that is to be released on the 7th of August.

“A Good Man” is the new single from West Australian, Melbourne-based rising star Darcie Haven – her fourth of 2025. The track sees Haven continue to embrace the introspective, vulnerable, confessional songwriting that has seen her amassing a legion of fans. On “A Good Man” attention is turned to reflecting on love, control and the slow, quiet unravelling of a relationship. As Darcie explains it, ‘“A Good Man” is about a relationship where you’re tirelessly trying to squeeze more love and life out of someone than they are capable of, and not knowing when to let go.’ With instrumentation kept at a minimum, Darcie’s emotive vocal takes centre stage, which brings with it a real sense of intimacy between artist and listener.

Also added to the playlist this week is “Alone In America”, the new single from Sydney’s Deep Sea Arcade. The track, which is co-produced and features Tame Impala’s Jay Watson, is the second to be released from the forthcoming album Colourised. Dreamlike and emotionally charged, the single reflects on the last tour the band embarked on before the tragic passing of founding member Nick Weaver. Beneath that lush, cinematic woozy soundscape then, there’s an undercurrent of emotional displacement, uncertainly, and loss. It’s a really wonderful, striking piece – full of richness, melody and swagger.

You can catch Deep Sea Arcade at a handful of East Coast dates next month: Metro Theatre, Sydney (Aug 20th); The Punters Club, Melbourne (Aug 23rd); and Dicey Rileys, Wollongong (Aug 30th).

In case you missed it, BIG NOTER is the new project for Yorta Yorta legend Briggs, and “TALK STRAIGHT”, their new track, is LOUD and furious. Razor-sharp lyrics that will leave you breathless are the order of the day here. Seeing this one performed live will be a take-no-prisoners experience. It comes as no surprise that it was produced by Nick Didia, who has worked with Rage Against the Machine.

This week German synth duo Felsmann + Tiley released their new single “Open Fields”. The track, a lush cinematic ballad, is from their forthcoming concept album Protomensch, and features vocals from Brisbane’s The Kite String Tangle. The duo are best known for their emotionally charged, percussionless take on neo-classical synthwave, amassing over 200 million streams and soundtracking everything from fashion campaigns to award-winning TV. On “Open Fields” they’re breaking new ground – with the single being their first vocal-led release. The single is billed as a lyrical counterpoint or response to previous release “Warum” and encourages us to plant hope even in uncertain terrain. It’s a compelling and resonant piece and that is in part down to Danny Harley’s emotive and distinctive vocals.

“Total Thunder” is the sizzling new single from duo Boo Boos, comprised of co-singer/songwriters Katie Boo and Bronco Boo, AKA E of EELS and Kate Mattison of 79.5. It’s the latest track taken from their upcoming debut album Young Love, which is set for release on the 19th of September.

“Harley” by Master Peace is an energetic and sharp track that showcases Peace’s standout talent in the current indie-sleaze revival. It’s no wonder there is such a buzz about Master Peace, who has worked with the likes of AJ Tracey, Johnny Marr, Franz Ferdinand and others. If you caught Bloc Party in their early days, then this will bring back fond memories.

Also added to the playlist this week is “Easy, Going” the beautiful new single from Melbourne singer-songwriter Laura Lucas; and the stunning “Winter Hymn” from Hull, UK-based singer-songwriter Kate Agerskow.

Finally, we have added “Do Without” from Leila, which we premiered earlier in the week.
