The sun returned to Brighton for day 3 of The Great Escape. If you missed seeing a band you fancied because of a clash, there is always the chance that they will pop up at an unofficial event, be it in a record shop or a pub. Melbourne’s Folk Bitch Trio played two official slots, and also a couple of record store sets. I caught them at the renowned Bella Union Vinyl Shop, and it was full to the brim. Their sweet melodies and beautiful songs sounded superb in this tight little space.

There were many other highlights during the day, including Armlock and Gordi from Australia, Daffo from the USA, and the ethereal The New Eves from the UK. The highlight of the day, for me, was the incredible English Teacher. They won the Mercury Prize for their debut album, This Could Be Texas, and they sound even better live. Here’s hoping they get down to Australia soon.
