THE TEMPER TRAP

the AU interview: Birds of Tokyo (Perth) talks "Anchor" EP, live shows and musical progression

After releasing their EP, Anchor, a couple of weeks ago, Birds of Tokyo have been busy, busy, busy. Last week the band wrapped up a national tour around the country to promote their new release and it was clear that vocalist, Ian Kenny and guitarist, Adam Spark were still buzzing from the shows, as they revealed to the AU review's Jana Angeles. "We were playing some of our favourite venues around the country - it was killer." Kenny states.

the AU review's 15 most anticipated Australian records of 2015

After an incredible year of new Australian music in 2014, we have an incredible array of records in the pipeline for the new year. Some are from bands who we've been waiting to hear from again for years... some for the first time... others are continuously pumping out incredible music and we have no desire for them to stop! In no particular order, here are the fifteen Australian albums (some confirmed, some still to be...) that we can't wait for (or at the very least are hoping for...) in 2015:

The second day of the Falls Festival at Lorne sees the rest of the campers arrive to scattered showers and winds which saw a few tents blow down. Down on the Valley Stage things were heating up with artists such as Milky Chance and Australia's own Temper Trap crowd favorites. DZ Deathrays stepped in at the last minute with Jamie XX and Big Freedia closing the night. The mood was expectant for what the rest of the festival would bring. Photos by John Goodridge.

Live Review: Falls Music & Arts Festival Day Three - North Byron Parklands (01.01.15)

It’s the afternoon, the heat has broken slightly, and Asgeir stands on the Forest Stage, playing a lilting cover of Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box”. Hushed and gentle, it shifts Cobain’s drawl for Asgeir’s fey vocals, altering it into a delicate indie anthem. It’s halfway through his set, and he’s just warmed up after a sluggish start. Single “Going Home” came just before, extended with pitch warped keyboard solos, and “King And Cross” will come later, before the folkish “Torrent” closes out the set.

Festival Review: Falls Festival Day Two ft. The Temper Trap + Jamie xx - Lorne, Victoria (29.12.14)

While the Grand Theatre took centre stage last night, Monday at Falls Festival Lorne was all about partying in the Valley. A great line up of bands and artists performed through the day and night, not letting the freezing cold weather and rain deter them - the crowd wasn't letting the dropping temperature get them either.

The Falls Festival countdown is on...who should you be catching this New Year's?

Falls Festival 2013, by John Goodridge.

It's that time of year again, friends. Convoys are being planned, alcohol tolerances are being tested on Christmas Day in preparation and road trip playlists are being pulled together. The Falls Festival is kicking off this weekend, the ultimate New Year's get away for many Australian music fans keen for an escape with mates (plus a good few new ones by the end of it all) and some brilliant live music to round out their year. This year's line up hasn't been without its disappointments, with Robyn and Röyksopp and more recently, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, having to drop out, but as usual, the crew behind one of the most popular festivals on our calendar have stepped up to the challenge, adding some great new bands and ensuring that the attendees will have all their party needs taken care of, right through into the early hours of New Year's Day.

Perri Cassie returns for day two of Lollapalooza in Chicago, bringing us back photos of headliners Outkast alongside Cage The Elephant, Foster The People, Grouplove, Kate Nash, Parquet Courts, Australia's The Temper Trap and many more!

Festival Review: Lollapalooza (Day Two) ft. The Temper Trap + Grouplove + Foster the People + Outkast - Grant Park, Chicago (02.08.14)

Day Two of Lolla started later for a lot of people, I gathered, with Friday night's aftershow/party antics continuing well on into the early hours of Saturday morning. Nursing a Red Bull, I arrived back at Grant Park on Saturday afternoon to a party which was already well cranked.

The Aussies of Lollapalooza 2014: From Flume to the John Butler Trio, a look at who's flying the flag in Chicago.

While we're coming down from Splendour weekend, we turn our eyes now to the next massive festival some of the same artists will be leaving Byron Bay to prepare for this week, Lollapalooza. Arguably one of the biggest festivals on the calendar, Lollapalooza has gone from being a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction back in the 90s to one of the hottest festivals held in the US, Chile, Brazil and in 2014 now, Argentina. the AU will be on ground at Grant Park this weekend bringing you coverage from the three day festival but before then, we take a look at the Australian contingent of artists set to perform in 2014.

It's Summer Up There! A Festival Guide on Lollapalooza 2014.

Lollapalooza, one of America’s biggest summer festivals, will be running again this August, and as per usual, it’s got a hell of a lineup. Rap god Eminem, will be joined by massive acts such as the reunited Outkast, Kings of Leon, Artic Monkeys and Lorde. The quality isn’t simply top heavy, with an array of impressive acts spreading all the way down the bill and even a few Australian acts will be flying the flag for us including Iggy Azalea, The Temper Trap, and Courtney Barnett.

Festival Review: Groovin The Moo - Hay Park, Bunbury (11.05.13)

This year’s run of the Groovin’ the Moo festival came to a close at Bunbury’s Hay Park on Saturday. Though the festival has been running for a couple of years now, this was the first time I’d ventured along, drawn in part by an eclectic line-up of both Australian and international artists.

The final stop of the Groovin The Moo festival tour landed in Hay Park, Bunbury where the likes of The Temper Trap, The Kooks, Tegan and Sara, Midnight Juggernauts, The Amity Affliction, The Bronx and more entertained the huge crowd for the day. Our man Stuart Sevastos was there to bring the highlights of the day.

Despite winter insistently creeping through the last cracks of summer the word on the street is JOY and the streets are paved with GOLD. News from Vance Joy, JOY 94.9 and Laine Lane and The Amity Affliction go gold.

Live Review: Groovin The Moo – Bendigo (04.05.13)

If you live in Victoria, you would know that Bendigo and Ballarat are typically your country town rivals. Aside from Geelong, these two regional cities are the next best thing after Melbourne. Now without sounding biased, my good old hometown of Ballarat has a lot going for it. Home of the Gold Rush, the iconic Lake Wendouree, chips cheese and gravy...we are doing alright down here! But there’s just one thing that Bendigo has that we don’t, one thing that dare I say, really puts it ahead of the old ‘rat a tat – Groovin the Moo.
