Paul McCartney, Alabama Shakes, Hot Chip and more help kick off Lollapalooza in Chicago for 2015!

Sir Paul McCartney made his Lollapalooza debut last night, helping kick off the iconic three day event in Chicago with a massive two hour, 15 minute set that saw the legendary artist delve into his catalogue of Wings and Beatles songs that had the tens of thousands of fans singing along from start to finish. He even had Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes singing along, when she joined the Beatle for a rendition of "Get Back" on both vocals and guitar, taking on a verse for herself with a gusto that we're sure would have contradicted the "pinch me, is this actually happening?" feeling anyone would experience in that situation.

Live Review: Alt-J + Ásgeir - Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre (13.05.15)

Icelandic folk-pop sprite Ásgeir kick started the night, charming the impatient crowd with an acapella lullaby in his native tongue before emerging from the dark. A nonchalant calm radiated from the frontman and his supporting four-piece, all indulging full Nordic beards bar one.

A wonderfully moody and intense set from both Icelandic singer Asgeir and the british indie rockers Alt-J. Our photographer John Goodridge was there to capture some images from the night.

New Music Video: ALT-J "Pusher" (2015)

Photo: Gabriel Green

We've still got a few months before alt-J return to Australian shores, but in the meantime, the British band have unveiled their latest music video for "Pusher" - an evocative number from their latest album, This Is All Yours. An idea by the band's frontman Joe Newman and director Thomas Rhazi, the video is dark, thought provoking and arresting.

Our Top 5 Performances from Falls Festival Lorne!

Photos: John Goodridge

Bundling ourselves up and hitting the road on a sunny Sunday afternoon, myself and fellow AU writer and music nut Bridget Hustwaite rolled on down the coast to Lorne for the 2014 Falls Festival. Hungover and still waking up, we drove back to Melbourne early New Year's Day morning, already discussing the hits and misses of the festival. Below are just a couple of thoughts on some of the stand out bands on the line up this year.

Festival Review: Field Day - The Domain, Sydney (01.01.15)

The concept of a music festival the day after the biggest global celebration, New Years Eve, seems flawed from the get go. But the crowd and energy tell a very different story. Festival boys are wearing deep, deep v-neck singlets matched with beards and bucket hats, every other girl is either in a black trilby hat or a bra-less midriff, and everyone is there for a good time.

As the sun rose on a perfect final day of the Falls Festival, weary punters headed to the valley in anticipation of another great day of music. Alt-J, The Presets and Safia were just a few of the standouts on the day. Our photographer John Goodridge brings you these photos from the final day.

Part 2 of our Field Day festival coverage at The Domain in Sydney includes Alt-J (pictured above), Bastille, Dillon Francis, Jamie xx, One Day, Peking Duk, RÜFÜS, SBTRKT, and The Kite String Tangle. Photos by Johnny Au.

Live Review: Falls Music & Arts Festival Day Four - North Byron Parklands (02.01.15)

The crowd was looking just a little tired and dusty as the fourth and final day at Falls kicked into gear. It was the coolest day thus far, breezy and cloud covered, but it was nonetheless still baking when Sydney’s Sticky Fingers wandered on to the Valley Stage.

Festival Review: Falls Festival Day Four ft. Vance Joy + Bluejuice + The Presets - Lorne, Victoria (31.12.14)

It was as if the gods suddenly looked down on the Lorne site of the 2014 Falls Festival and told each other, 'You know what? They've suffered enough with the rain.' - the clouds disappeared for our New Year's Eve in the forest and the temperature rose considerably, a perfect atmosphere for our final day at the festival. Moods were high (weed was probably helping in that regard, too) and the music was totally fitting as one's soundtrack to the end of the year.

The Falls Festival countdown is on...who should you be catching this New Year's?

Falls Festival 2013, by John Goodridge.

It's that time of year again, friends. Convoys are being planned, alcohol tolerances are being tested on Christmas Day in preparation and road trip playlists are being pulled together. The Falls Festival is kicking off this weekend, the ultimate New Year's get away for many Australian music fans keen for an escape with mates (plus a good few new ones by the end of it all) and some brilliant live music to round out their year. This year's line up hasn't been without its disappointments, with Robyn and Röyksopp and more recently, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, having to drop out, but as usual, the crew behind one of the most popular festivals on our calendar have stepped up to the challenge, adding some great new bands and ensuring that the attendees will have all their party needs taken care of, right through into the early hours of New Year's Day.

Falls Festival releases set times, maps and app information!

With the Falls Music and Arts Festival only weeks away, punters can today start scheduling their time at the festivals in Lorne, Marion and Byron Bays, as the official set times have been released! Of course, many have been wondering who is going to be ringing in the New Year and it looks like Marion Bay will be bringing in 2015 with Empire of the Sun on the main stage, Byron Bay will have Alison Wonderland supplying the New Year's countdown, while at Lorne it's going to be a three way split, with Joey Bada$$ taking Grand Theatre punters through the final hour of 2014, and Alt-J and The Presets taking control out on the Valley Stage.

Alt-J announce full Australian tour for May 2015!

Alt-J have been teasing their Aussie fans over the past month or so, with a quick promo trip drawing huge crowds out in both Melbourne and Sydney, not to mention their upcoming gigs at the Falls Festival at the end of the year sure to make many punters' New Year's that extra special. The British band, revelling in the awesomeness that is their new album This is All Yours, have today announced their biggest tour of Australia yet, lined up for May 2015.
