Workaholics‘ Adam Devine to host the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards as Get Out leads the nominations

Formerly known as the MTV Movie Awards, all the details have been revealed about the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, set to be held in Los Angeles on May 8th at 10am, Sydney time. This year’s host will be WorkaholicsAdam Devine, who takes over from last year’s duo Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson.

“I’m so excited to host the ‘MTV Movie & TV Awards,’” said Adam Devine in a statement. “I have dreamed about it since I was a teenager. It was usually a dry dream, but I would be remiss if I didn’t admit that sometimes it was wet.”

Now in its 24th year, this will be the first time the event has covered Film and Television. On the Film front, the thriller Get Out tops the list of nominations with six, which included Movie of the Year and Best Actor for David Kaluuya, in what is his first major awards nod. Current box office smash Beauty and the Beast has four nominations, while Logan, Moonlight and Hidden Figures each have three.

On the TV front, Stranger Things tops the pile with four nominations, with Atlanta, Game of Thrones and This is Us all sitting on three nominations.

Notably, the best Actor and Actress categories have been melded into one “Actor” category – also a change for the 2017 event. And while most categories are “TV” or “Film” focused, some meld the two together, such as in the “Fight Against The System” award, which we hope is presented to the winner by Zach de la Rocha. But probably won’t be. This category sees Get Out nominated alongside Mr. Robot, Hidden Figures, Luke Cage and Loving.

Here are the full list of nominees, and you can find out who won when the event is screened live on MTV Australia on May 8th at 10am AEST.
